Of course, due to the special theme, this contest comes with its own set of special rules. (Oh yay!)

  1. Generally, the goal was supposed to be a straightforward level from A to B, without path splittings and puzzle / maze sections and alike.
  2. Nothing in terms of a storyline, signs may only be used for instructions.
  3. No red coins or silver stars. No miniseries and no collaborations between designers.
  4. No glitches (manipulations of code, such as disabling, invincible bullet bills or large signs) as well.
  5. Too huge loading times and too much lag means disqualification, to make sure the levels aren't too crazy and can be properly judged.
  6. Midway checkpoints and HTML tags for instruction purpose are allowed.
  7. Slight violations of the rules (e.g. a few non-instructive signs) result in point deductions in Other. Heavy violations result in disqualifications, as stated below.

Disqualifications[]

Now, due to the special rules, there was a lot of disqualifications. Aside from unfinished levels (Avo and Panik!), these are:

Level Designer(s) Reason
PlatformAWESOME Mr_SaxMan Enormous size and lags at many places, simply too large.
Scardy's Trap Cave ScardySquaril also too large, as well as being more puzzle-based than a platformer
(level deleted) Arturia (General Bogdan) unloadable and various LD rules not followed in general
Bullet Dodge Chessplayer massive lags and bullet bill spam
Mario Classic 000YoshiStar000 Lag due to coin blocks and goombas, and the path splitting mid-way
The 3 Challenges of the Shine skjung2034 various plot-wise violations of the specific rules, e.g. at the snow maze

Trivia[]

  • The intention behind the amount of special rules was to ensure that levels are kept simple and not over-worked, to have both faster judgings and less complications with people not finishing their levels. It was an incredibly grand success: Without disqualifications, we got a total of 30 entrants, probably a record for eternity.
  • Due to the huge run on the stakes, the original 1st, 2nd and 3rd place trophies were expanded by our common 4h, 5th and 6th place ribbons. They were also awarded in retrospect to the runner-ups of the previous contests. The new medals were designed by Asterocrat and added by Suyo.
  • This contest also marks a cesura in history because this was the first time we've stored entries in a separate topic, the LDC Vault. No more rummaging through all pages and no more round-up posts are needed since then. Thanks to Oranjui who came up with this idea.
  • King became quite a surprise winner with straightly winning the first LDC he took part in. It was the last time to have someone win as a debutant.
